Iron Status in Adolescents with Eating Disorder: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Eating disorders are major mental that affect all aspects of life, including quality life at home or workplace, personal functions, and social life. Malnutrition, particularly iron deficiency, can result from a lack food intake caused by eating disorders. Aim: This study aimed to determine the impact in adolescents on hematological alterations serum indexes. Method: The was conducted doing online database searches systematically using relevant search terms appropriate criteria. Sources literature were traced those published until 2022. following databases: MEDLINE, PubMed, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, Scielo, DynaMed Plus. Results: Searching keyword yielded 55 titles abstracts. When they screened, total 41 publications saved for further analysis. However, only 8 met inclusion criteria continued review (two studies used cross-sectional design, one case-control study, five cohort studies). Conclusion: Iron deficiency anemia uncommon young women who had weight loss. there rise ferritin hepcidin, as well decrease transferrin, based evaluations biomarkers more sensitive detection adolescent anorexia nervosa.
